Collagen

The Key to Youthful Skin

What is Collagen?

Collagen, is a vital protein present throughout our bodies, playing a crucial role in maintaining the health and appearance of our skin. It provides the foundation for a firm, plump complexion and contributes to that coveted healthy glow.

This invaluable protein is produced by cells called Fibroblasts which can be found in the fibrous layer of the skin, the dermis, along with other extracellular components like hair follicles, glands, nerves and veins. This fibrous layer also houses other key components such as elastic fibres and glycosaminoglycans, both playing a critical role in ensuring the skin’s moisture retention and flexibility.

Ageing

Unfortunately, as we age, our natural collagen production dwindles, declining to the rate of around 1.0-1.5% a year. This decline comes as a result of our Fibroblasts becoming less active, meaning that our existing collagen breaks down more readily. Among other compounds, ageing reduces the production of glycosaminoglycans which ensure the skin’s moisture, leading to the loss of integrity, general weakening and increased dryness. This unwelcome process leads to the emergence of wrinkles, sagging skin, and a loss of overall skin elasticity.

External Factors

External factors such as prolonged sun exposure and pollution can exacerbate the breakdown of collagen in the skin. The direct and/or indirect uptake of airborne pollutants by the lungs or the skin can result in the intoxication of the cells in the body which, if prolonged, can result in the damage of proteins within the vital dermis layer. It has been noted that prolonged and unprotected sun exposure can cause the remodelling and degradation of collagen and elastic fibres within the dermis layer thus causing abnormality and general deterioration of the skin.

Rejuvenate the Skin you’re in

Ageing is a natural and beautiful part of life which you needn’t worry about but if you feel the need to intervene and reduce the progression of this process Cynosure have the skills, knowledge and tools to help.

POTENZA™ takes Radio Frequency microneedling to extraordinary heights with its extensive customisable options. These options empower POTENZA™ to effectively treat all skin types, addressing various areas of the body with rigour, regardless of the season.

Harness the Power of Radio Frequency (RF) Energy:

By utilising RF energy, POTENZA™ heats the underlying layers of your skin, resulting in skin tightening and constriction through soft-tissue coagulation. The deep delivery of RF energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, leading to faster and more remarkable results.

What can I expect during my Potenza treatment?

Using RF energy, the Potenza treatment triggers your body’s natural response, stimulating a higher level of collagen and elastin production. Compared to microneedling alone, such a treatment leads to superior skin revitalization which could not be achieved otherwise.

Potenza has the ability to switch between mono and bipolar RF at 1 or 2 MHz which, paired with a variety of different microneedling tips and treatment times under 45 minutes, ensures that every treatment can be personalised and customised to suit your needs.
